Year of Contemplation
Written By: Jeannie Blatus

Facing the truth ain't easy to do when I tend to run from everything.
Each time I glance over my shoulder I get trapped where I've already been.
I slowly slip into those moments. And stumble down a rabbit hole.
As I push my way through piled up pieces of past
I pretend I know which way to go.

Yesterday's they pester me with "What if I's" and "I owe you's"
Excuse me while I try to lick my self-inflicted wounds.
As you pull me from the churning sea of deeds that can't be undone,
I begin forgiving as I go on living
here in this year of contemplation.

Help me let go this old sack of stones that's been dangling from
My neck too long.
So I can realize what's going right instead of obsessing on what's going wrong.
If I keep my eyes facing forward I focus on the light ahead.
As I make my way through massive mountains of me
I let loose all pointless regrets.

Yesterday's they pester me with "What if I's" and "I owe you's"
Excuse me while I try to lick my self-inflicted wounds.
As you pull me from the churning sea of deeds that can't be undone,
I begin forgiving as I go on living
here in this year of contemplation.

Contemplate.

Yesterday's they pester me with "What if I's" and "I owe you's"
Excuse me while I try to lick my self-inflicted wounds.
As you pull me from the churning sea of deeds that can't be undone,
I begin forgiving as I go on living
here in this year of contemplation.
